Das erste US OPEN 9-Ball Qualifikationsturnier in der Schweiz fand diesen Samstag in Bümpliz statt, welches gleichzeitig auch das einzige, von Matchroom Multi Sport anerkannte, Turnier in Europa ist. Diesen Event konnten wir dank unseren Sponsoren durchführen – daher ein Spezialdank an «BeCue» und «SORACE Professional Pool Cues» und dem «Benteli’s Billardcenter».

44 Spieler trafen sich zu diesem Turnier im Benteli’s und kämpften um die 2 Startplätze für die US OPEN.
Die Ankunft der Spieler war gestaffelt, da im Vorfeld die jeweilige Startzeit der Partien bereits bekannt gegeben wurden. Auch die übrigen Startzeiten jeder Partie war auf einem Tableau ersichtlich, so konnten sich die Spieler orientieren, wann sie wieder spielen mussten – dies wurde von den Spielern sehr positiv aufgenommen.
Die Kategorie Jugend wurde durch Silvan Starkermann vertreten. In der ersten Runde musst er sich zwar Bodlovic Igor mit 9:4 beugen, konnte dann aber Stampfer Patrice seinerseits mit 9:4 besiegen. In seinem dritten Spiel fand er aber kein Rezept mehr, um gegen Haueter Stefan bestehen zu können, so beendete er das Turnier auf dem 25. Platz.
Die Damen im Feld waren Cristina Schneider und Christine Feldmann. Cristina duellierte sich gleich zu Beginn mit dem Organisator Andrea Accolla und siegte mit 9:4. Nach der klaren Niederlage gegen den Turnierfavoriten Regli, traf Cristina in der Hoffnungsrunde auf Nydegger Pascal. Dieser lies ihr kaum eine Chance und so beendete Cristina das Turnier im 33. Rang.
Christine gewann ihre erste Partie ohne jegliche Zweifel aufkommen zu lassen, mit 9:0 gegen Berger Alexandre. Gegen Anar Bora geriet sie zwar früh in Rückstand, konnte danach aber aufholen aber nicht mehr das Spiel wenden, so dass sie sich mit 9:5 geschlagen geben musste. Das Duell mit Haueter Stefan gestaltete sich ausserordentlich spannend, trotzdem musste auch Christine sich Stefan beugen und beendete ihr Turnier auf dem guten 17. Platz.
Das Feld der Spieler war gespickt mit Spitzenspielern auf der Schweiz und dem Ausland z.B. Italien mit Petroni, Nicoletti, Deutschland mit Weissenberger, Tschechien mit Hajdovsky etc.
Durch die Anzahl an Topspielern, ergaben sich viele spannende Duelle auf hohem Niveau, wie z.B. das Duell Weissenberger gegen Jungo. Weissenberger ging früh deutlich in Führung, ehe Jungo in sein Spiel fand und seinerseits aufdrehen konnte. Das Spiel endete schlussendlich mit einem 9:7 Sieg von Jungo.
Die übrigen Viertelfinalduelle waren ebenfalls auf sehr gutem Niveau. In diesen konnten sich schliesslich
Regli mit 9:6 gegen Nicoletti durchsetzen; Karabiyik unterlag Petroni mit 4:9 und Menillo schlug Anar mit 9:7.
Nun spürten die Spieler aber die fortgeschrittene Zeit und kämpften nunmehr nicht nur gegen den Gegner, sondern auch gegen die eigene Müdigkeit. Trotzdem zeigten die Halbfinalisten ein sehr gutes Billard. Im Duell Regli-Petroni ging der Italiener in Führung aber Regli blieb dran und zog mit 9:6 in den Final ein. Im zweiten Halbfinal startete Menillo überzeugend und distanzierte Jungo gleich mal klar. Dimitri versuchte alles um wieder heran zu kommen, konnte aber die 9:4 Niederlage nicht mehr abwenden.
Im Final erlebten wir ein Startfurioso von Regli, der den Sieg unbedingt wollte. So schrieb er Punkt um Punkt und nach knapp 40 Minuten stand das Score auf 7:0, ehe Patrick seine ersten beiden Punkte schreiben konnte. Das 10 und 11 Frame teilten sich die Beiden, so dass es nun 8:3 stand. Jetzt wollte aber Ronald den Sack zu machen und sich den Startplatz inklusive Flug und Hotel für die US OPEN sichern. So beendete er den Frame mit dem Punkt und gewann so das Match und das Turnier.
Wir danken den Spielern für das tolle Billard und den Zuschauern, welche sehr lange vor Ort geblieben sind und für eine tolle Atmosphäre im Benteli’s sorgten.
Wir werden für das nächste US OPEN wieder zwei Qualis durchführen und würden uns freuen alle wieder begrüssen zu dürfen; die Termine werden rechtzeitig bekannt gegeben.

1st US OPEN Qualification Tournament
The first Us-Open 9 Ball Championship Qualifying Tournament in Switzerland took place this Saturday in Bümpliz, the only one in Europe recognized from Matchroom Multi Sport. 44 players met at Benteli's for this tournament and played for the two starting places for the US OPEN.
The arrival of the players was staggered, since the respective starting times of the games had already been announced in advance. Also the other starting times of each game were visible on a tableau, so the players could orient themselves when they had to play again - this was very positively received by the players.
The youth category was represented by Silvan Starkermann. In the first round he had to bend to Bodlovic Igor with 9:4, but then he defeated Stampfer Patrice with 9:4. But in his third game he couldn't find a recipe to win against Haueter Stefan, so he finished the tournament in 25th place.
The ladies in the field were Cristina Schneider and Christine Feldmann. Cristina duelled the tournament organizer Andrea Accolla right at the beginning and won with 9:4. After the clear defeat against the tournament favorite Regli, Cristina met Nydegger Pascal in the looser’s bracket round. Pascal hardly gave her a chance and Cristina finished the tournament in 33rd place.
Christine won her first match without any doubt, with 9:0 against Berger Alexandre. Against Anar Bora, she was behind very early, but she was able to catch up but could not turn the game around, so that she had to accept defeat 9:5. The duel with Haueter Stefan was extremely exciting, but Christine also had to bow to Stefan and finished her tournament on the good 17th place.
The field of players was peppered with top players from Switzerland and other countries e.g. Italy with Petroni, Nicoletti, Germany with Weissenberger, Czech Republic with Hajdovsky, etc.
Due to the number of top players, there were many exciting duels on a high level, such as the duel Weissenberger against Jungo. Weissenberger clearly took the lead early on, before Jungo found his way into his game and could turn up the heat on his part. The game ended with a 9-7 victory for Jungo.
The remaining quarterfinal duels were also on a very good level. In these could be finally
Regli beat Nicoletti 9:6, Karabiyik defeated by Petroni 4:9 and Menillo beat Anar 9:7.
But now the players felt the advanced time and fought not only against the opponent, but also against their own fatigue. Nevertheless, the semi-finalists showed a very good billiards. In the duel, Regli-Petroni the Italian took the lead but Regli stayed on and entered the final with 9:6. In the second semi-final Menillo started convincingly and distanced Jungo clearly. Dimitri tried everything to get back on track, but could not avoid the 9:4 defeat.
In the final, we experienced a start furioso from Regli, who absolutely wanted to win. So he wrote point by point and in 40 minutes the score was 7:0, before Patrick could write his first two points. The 10 and 11 frames were shared by the two, so that it was now 8:3. But now Ronald wanted to make the bag and secure the starting place including flight and hotel for the US OPEN. So he finished the frame with the point and won the match and the tournament.
We thank the players for the great billiards and the spectators, who stayed there for a very long time and provided a great atmosphere in Benteli's.
We will be holding two qualifications again for the next US OPEN and would be happy to welcome everyone again; the dates will be announced in time.
